About us

Primary and Community Health Aotearoa was established in 2018 and represents primary and community consumer health care interests, for health, wellbeing and of benefit to all New Zealanders. It is the unified voice of Aotearoa’s leading primary and community health providers.

As a sector-wide membership group, our aim is to influence the direction of the health system so that the primary and community health sector is the central function and focus of New Zealand’s health system that is person focused and advances health and wellbeing equity.

Our member organisation encompasses a wide range of health professionals including pharmacy, midwifery, allied health, general practice, and provider networks across New Zealand.

Our mission is to provide national leadership on primary and community health in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our Strategic Goals

Advance the primary and community health sector to be the central function of focus of the health system.

Achieve a sustainable primary and community health sector including equity of access, quality of care and outcomes for all people in Aotearoa.

Strengthen Primary and Community Health Aotearoa as the lead sector body for advancing primary and community health in Aotearoa.

Our mission is to provide national leadership on primary and community health in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Promote, protect and improve the sustainability of the primary and community health sector.

Achieve a vibrant and sustainable primary and community health sector.

Champion long term sustainable investment in the primary and community health sector.

Be the voice of the primary and community health sector on strategy, policy commissioning and funding.

Our objectives

Focus on growing a vibrant workforce committed to working in the community health sector.

Work with Health New Zealand to grow and support Māori and Pacific providers and NGO’s.

Institute regular meetings with Ministers of Health and officials in the Ministry of Health and HNZ.

Foster sector-wide collaboration through membership, media and stakeholder engagement.

Ensure a consumer focus and voice is applied to primary health policy and provision.

Strengthen the voice of communities in the design and delivery of primary and community healthy services.

Pursue meaningful responses to the differences in health access and outcomes between different populations in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Enhance and maintain a unified galvanised membership body that actively contributes to sector activities
